Really, HOA? Really?

The saga continues...

This came in the mail on Friday:

Wait...the deck...is...DENIED?!  Whatever will we do?  Oh wait, that's right.  We submitted our request to the Architectural Committee over 70 days ago, never heard back, and built the deck.  I've thought of two possible responses: (1) ignore them or (2) reply with a photo of myself sipping a Mai Thai in the hot tub with the caption, "Suck it, HOA."

Thoughts?

Everyone Hates the HOA

As some of you may know, Paul and I just moved into a new home.  While the home is a definite upgrade, the move itself was a bit of a downgrade.  Without getting into too much detail, 36 hours after we closed on the new house, it flooded.  I'm talking "the whole first floor was covered in 2" of water" flooded.

Needless to say, nearly two months and an insurance claim later, our house is almost fixed.  What does any of this have to do with the HOA?  Well, while half of our house was being replaced, the workers set up their saws and other tools along with all the new flooring materials in our garage.  "What a great idea!  That will keep the inside from getting unnecessarily dusty."  This is true, but apparently it also drew the ire of the HOA.

Apparently our new neighborhood finds it offensive when you fail to park all of your vehicles inside your garage.  Some of the neighbors had warned us about this, but we (naively) assumed they would give us a few weeks to get moved in and settled before they started issuing fines.  WRONG!

A few issues with this letter: (1) we only own two of those vehicles; (2) this is our first notice, not our third; (3) we don't have any parking variances; and (4) we had only been living in the house for a month by February 12th.  Clearly, the HOA is wrong (and stupid).  Needless to say, we will not be paying $150 for failing to use our garage.

Oh, and in the mean time, where's the approval for our deck?  The Architectual Committee has 30 days to review any proposed changes and either approve or deny them.  It's been 31 days.  This is why everyone hates the HOA.
